The domino theory meant that once there was one communist victory in a nation, there would be a chain reaction of communists victories all around the world. The U.S was worried that communism would take over land after land, so they decided to invade Vietnam to prove that the domino theory would only take over little pieces of land, not the whole world. This then led to the Vietnam War in 1954. Basically, the American leaders wanted to prevent communism from spreading. After 1975, communism did spread throughout Laos and Cambodia, but failed to spread throughout the rest of Southeast Asia.
